These are five firsthand reviews of Osaka-area shopping, a market, a theme park, and an arcade. The Nakaza Kuidaore Building and Asobi Town on its basement level are separate entries. Photographs and experiences record the visits at the time.
Universal Studios Japan (ユニバーサル・スタジオ・ジャパン)

Donkey Kong Country had newly opened at Universal Studios Japan in Osaka. Besides buying an advance ticket that guarantees area entry, visitors could enter the park with a valid admission ticket, register it in the official app, and obtain a free Area Timed Entry Ticket or enter the area-entry lottery. The source states that, from January 5, 2026, the official app is required to issue timed-entry and lottery tickets. Depending on operations, entry may be possible without a timed ticket, but access can be limited by that day’s ticket supply and lottery results. With a long wait before area entry, using the intervening time for other attractions and shows can be efficient. The popular Mine-Cart Madness attraction in Donkey Kong Country was drawing long lines. Planning the day carefully was the key to an easier USJ visit.

Osaka Kizu Wholesale Market (大阪木津卸売市場)

Osaka Kizu Wholesale Market was attracting both residents and visitors. It has a trade-oriented grocery store selling fresh seafood and other food in quantity. Restaurants on the market’s first floor serve dishes such as eel and seafood rice bowls, sometimes with long breakfast lines. On the west side of the second floor of the building south of the market is Taiheinoyu Namba, a bathing facility where visitors can relax after shopping and eating.

Nakaza Kuidaore Building (中座くいだおれビル)

On March 26, 2025, the Nakaza Kuidaore Building, home to Dotonbori’s iconic drumming figure, reopened after renovation. Floors 1–3 followed an “eat and enjoy” theme, with options from yakiniku, tanghulu, and a drugstore to Sushiro, beef cutlets, and okonomiyaki. Floor 4 housed Manekineko karaoke; floor 5 offered XR experiences, shows, clubs, and other entertainment. Floor 6 was the Yoshimoto Dotonbori Theater, combining Osaka comedy with the area’s food appeal. The basement level housed the next entry, Surpra Osaka Dotonbori Asobi Town. Together, the food and activities made the building feel like a new Dotonbori attraction at the time.

Surpra Osaka Dotonbori Asobi Town (サープラ大阪道頓堀あそびタウン)

This arcade opened in March 2025 on basement level 1 of Dotonbori’s Nakaza Kuidaore Building. Experiences included a crane game with ten claw arms moving at once, samba-themed prize games, and cheering robots. The claim that machines with beginner marks had a higher prize-win rate came from the operator’s March 25, 2025 opening promotion. Do not read that old promotional wording as a current win rate or a guarantee of a prize. Other activities included photo booths, capsule toys, and fortune draws. With rhythmic applause encouraging players of all ages, it felt like a lively new Dotonbori stop at the time of the visit.

PLATPLAT

Directly connected to Sakai Station, PLATPLAT brought together useful shops for travelers. At Nakamura Shoten, the original visit found sushi such as eel, sea bream, and squid at remarkably low prices. Desserts and fruit were also inexpensive, with good quality for the money. During that visit, a prepared-food shop offered half-price items after 21:00, which was useful for late-night food. Check each store’s own information for current hours and the times and items covered by any discount. Starbucks, KFC, and MUJI added convenience for a stay in Sakai.
