The original announcement said JAPAN RAIL PASS prices through designated overseas sales outlets would increase on October 1, 2026. Under that announcement, online prices on the official JAPAN RAIL PASS website would remain unchanged for the time being.

What was changing?

For adult Ordinary Car passes sold through designated outlets such as overseas travel agencies, the 7-day price would rise from JPY 50,000 to JPY 53,000, the 14-day price from JPY 80,000 to JPY 84,000, and the 21-day price from JPY 100,000 to JPY 105,000. Green Car and child pass prices were also being adjusted.

Adult Ordinary Car pass / Price at the time of the report / Price from October 1, 2026
7 days JPY 50,000 JPY 53,000
14 days JPY 80,000 JPY 84,000
21 days JPY 100,000 JPY 105,000

Would the official online price stay the same?

The official notice said designated sales-outlet prices would change on October 1 while prices on the official website would remain at their existing level. The same JR Pass could therefore cost different amounts through different purchase channels. Before paying, compare the final prices, refund conditions, and seat-reservation procedures on the official website and at the sales outlet.

Who should check this announcement?

  • Travelers planning to take the Shinkansen between several Japanese cities from October 2026 onward
  • Travelers buying an exchange order in advance through a travel agency or designated overseas seller
  • Travelers deciding between the nationwide JR Pass, a regional pass, and individual tickets

EDITOR'S NOTE

EVERYDAY TRIP Editorial Team’s analysis and advice

A price increase alone is no reason to rush into buying. If your itinerary covers Fukuoka and only part of Kyushu, a regional pass or individual tickets may cost less than the nationwide pass. Add up the individual fares for the trips you actually plan to take, then weigh that total against the nationwide pass’s convenience.
