The original report described a Korean Air coupon available through September 20 for flights from Incheon to Kobe, Niigata, Komatsu, Okayama, Kagoshima, or Aomori. It reduced Saver and Standard airfare by 5%, excluding fuel surcharges and taxes.
JAPAN NOW · KOREA DEPARTURE DEAL
Six regional Japanese destinations5% off base airfare
This Korean Air/JNTO promotion concerned travelers departing South Korea. Both purchase and departure periods had to be met, with separate route-specific excluded dates.
Only the fare was reduced. Fuel surcharges, airport charges, and taxes remained, so the original advised comparing other flights using the final checkout total.
The six routes
A direct Kansai-area option for itineraries covering western Osaka, Kobe, or Himeji.
A useful Hokuriku gateway for Kanazawa, Fukui, and Toyama.
Suited to Okayama, Kurashiki, and the Setouchi region.
Could shorten access to Niigata city, Sado Island, or the Echigo area.
Direct access for northern Tohoku trips including Aomori, Hirosaki, and Lake Towada.
Only Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday departures qualified; Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday departures were excluded.
Both purchase and departure dates had to qualify
The source required a logged-in member purchasing through Korean Air’s website or mobile service, with coupon issue and application checked before completing payment.
Buying within the sales period did not qualify a departure outside the travel window or fare conditions.
Both booking classes had to be eligible Saver or Standard classes for a round-trip itinerary.
Aomori excluded September 23–24, October 2–4, and October 9. The other eligible routes excluded September 22–24, October 2–3, October 9, and November 6–23.
Exceptions to check before applying the coupon
- Mileage tickets, multi-city trips, and codeshares were excluded
- Only economy Saver and Standard fares qualified, with some ticket exclusions
- Fuel surcharges and taxes received no 5% reduction
- The coupon could not be combined with other promotional coupons
- Adding a missed coupon could require refunding and repurchasing the original ticket, potentially incurring charges
- Changing dates after purchase could lead to recovery of the discount and a reissue fee
The original checkout procedure
Search the eligible route and date through the website or mobile service.
Check the booking class and change/refund rules as well as the lowest displayed fare.
Select coupon issue and confirm the 5% amount in the payment breakdown.
Compare the discounted total with other dates and airlines before paying.
The original also described a KRW 50,000 gift-card draw
After purchasing an eligible ticket, a separate entry by September 20 qualified for a Korean Air KRW 50,000 gift-card draw: 50 ticket purchasers and 30 winners for the destination-choice event. Entry covered both events simultaneously and repeat entry was not allowed.
EDITOR'S NOTE · EVERYDAY TRIP
EVERYDAY TRIP Editorial Team’s advice
On regional routes, removing a connection may matter more than the discount. With a clear destination such as Kobe, Kanazawa, or Aomori, compare the onward transport and the two to four hours of travel needed after arriving in Tokyo or Osaka.
A cheaper booking class might be ineligible or have less suitable baggage/change terms. Compare the Saver total after 5% with the final total of other fares on the same basis.
A trip entering through Komatsu and leaving Osaka might encounter the multi-city exclusion. Reshaping the itinerary into a return trip just for a coupon could increase local transport and travel time.
Accommodation might also cost more on excluded dates. If dates are flexible, compare flights, hotels, and local transport together. Where changes are likely, the change-fee terms may matter more than the reduction.
