If planning to travel from Fukuoka toward Kumamoto or Kagoshima in autumn or winter, the source suggests revisiting the rail route. JR Kyushu resumed service across the full Kyushu Shinkansen on September 18, 2026, according to this dated report. Resumption does not mean a complete return to the former timetable. The schedule reflects speed restrictions on some sections, while conventional lines still had suspended sections. Check the new timetable and booking method for your travel date before connecting hotels and flights —that is the central point of this autumn-planning account.

Full-line Shinkansen service resumed in the sourceRecheck timetables and how to buy tickets
The report compared JR Kyushu's announcements, operating information and Korean-language booking guidance, also cross-checking the restart date with Fukuoka City's official tourism site. It covers a service restart without a published end date and preparation for later travel. Dates refer to 2026; times are Japan Standard Time, the same as Korea.
1. What resumed, and what remained different?
JR Kyushu's September 18 release and the important notice available at the source check confirm the full-line Kyushu Shinkansen restart . But southern Kyushu travel cannot be judged from one Shinkansen leg alone. Check the conventional line after it and the transfer time as part of the same journey.
Full-line service resumed September 18. For longer journeys toward Kumamoto and Kagoshima, use the official timetable applying after the restart.
JR Kyushu's schedule incorporates restrictions on some sections. Do not reuse saved pre-suspension times or journey durations from older trip reviews.
At the September 22 check, Uto–Yatsushiro on the conventional Kagoshima Main Line remained suspended, with reduced service on Kumamoto–Uto. Shinkansen resumption does not mean normal conventional-line service.
The replacement transport described in the source prioritizes school commuting. It should not be treated as unrestricted sightseeing transport. If your itinerary crosses a suspended section, check actual alternatives and their boarding conditions separately.
2. Separate the post-September 18 timetable from October's additional trains
The official documents serve different purposes. The timetable announced August 31 gives train times applying from September 18 . The September 18 announcement covers additional Sakura plans for October and other matters. Do not use the single newest document to assume identical operations in every month.
Speed restrictions are already reflected in it. If changing trains between Kumamoto and Kagoshima-Chuo, check the post-restart arrival and departure times together.
Tickets for specified additional October Sakura trains were announced for sale from 15:00 on September 18. That special sale date must not be extended to all regular trains.
The September 18 document says November's additional-service plan will be announced when decided. Do not pay for hotels or flights on the assumption that October's extras continue unchanged.
The official timetable also includes related services such as Limited Express Kirishima and Ibusuki no Tamatebako. When connecting with a sightseeing train or limited express in southern Kyushu, check not only Shinkansen departure but arrival at the transfer station, the next train's operating date and actual reservation availability . This report links the official original rather than copying individual train times that could soon change.
3. Which reservations start at 10:00 one month before?
JR Kyushu's Korean-language regular-train reservation FAQ states 10:00 one month before the travel date as the start. Applying that general rule, October 22 travel opens September 22 at 10:00, and November 22 travel opens October 22 at 10:00. Korea and Japan have no time difference.
A particular seat is not guaranteed, however. Give priority to any separate sale announcement for an additional train.
No result for a distant date not yet on sale does not immediately mean suspension. Conversely, a train appearing in reservations does not guarantee delay-free travel that day. Check timetable → check sale date → secure actual seats → recheck operations before departure are separate stages, which helps avoid confusion.
4. Korean-language regular-ticket booking and rail-pass booking differ
JR Kyushu provides Korean-language booking guidance. However, the service selling regular tickets is separate from the service using a JR Kyushu Rail Pass . The official FAQ does not support buying a regular ticket first and later changing it into pass use.
The Korean-language regular-train service sells one-way and round-trip regular tickets by online card payment. It is not a discount-product service, and the source says a group can contain up to 7 people.
The official Korean FAQ addresses foreign visitors entering Japan under Temporary Visitor status. Passport and entry-status checks and each pass's covered routes matter; nationality alone does not automatically qualify every traveler.
Eligible passes and electronic exchange vouchers have information for paid advance seat booking through JR KYUSHU RAIL PASS Online. Check the purchase-channel conditions rather than assuming the same function applies to every pass and seller.
Seats bought through regular-ticket online reservations cannot later be converted to rail-pass seats. If planning to use a pass, first decide its coverage and purchase route, then choose the reserved-seat procedure. Use of a Korea-departure flight is not a separate qualification for the Shinkansen restart, and this news is not a Korean-exclusive discount or flight-linked benefit.
5. Easily missed payment-card and physical-ticket collection conditions
Regular-train guidance requires the payment card plus reservation and authentication numbers when collecting tickets. A phone screen alone may not be enough; check the collection place and hours before departure.
The official FAQ requires a physical card and does not accept virtual or nonphysical cards. Losing the payment card or receiving a replacement with a different number can also cause ticket-collection problems.
Korean-language guidance does not guarantee approval of all Korean cards. Card-company, overseas-online-payment and identity-authentication restrictions were not established by this check. Confirm official-screen and issuer conditions before paying.
The official Korean FAQ specifies payment in yen . The KRW amount charged can vary with exchange rates and card fees, so the displayed yen fare alone does not determine final spending. A flight delay also does not automatically waive JR refund fees. Separate air and rail contracts have separate change/refund terms to read.
6. Compare totals rather than assuming a pass always saves money
This research did not establish actual selling prices by route, date and seat class. It therefore does not estimate particular yen fares or savings from a pass. Compare the following 3 items for the same date and route in the official search system.
Add regular fares and selected conditions such as reserved seats for the one-way or return journeys you will actually take. Do not assume the Korean-language regular service sells discount products.
Add necessary advance-reservation fees and travel outside coverage to the selected pass price. Compare valid days, routes and seat conditions together.
Add hotel changes, cancellation charges and separate transport to the rail-price difference. Reconsider a route that looks cheap but creates missed connections or unnecessary return travel.
7. Before booking and before departure
- Check Shinkansen and connecting trains together in the official JR Kyushu timetable for your date.
- Check whether conventional-line suspensions or reduced services, including Uto–Yatsushiro, affect the route, then confirm available alternatives separately.
- Separate regular sales at 10:00 one month before travel from additional-train sale announcements.
- Decide between buying regular tickets and using a rail pass before selecting the service.
- Beyond card approval, check physical-card, booking-information, passport and other collection requirements for the product.
- Include companions' seats, transfer margins and ticket-collection time when linking airports and hotels.
- Recheck operations the previous day and travel day. A restart announcement is not a future guarantee of no delays.
The JR Kyushu Shinkansen operating information checked September 22 at 12:22 showed no delay. This is only the result at that moment and does not guarantee normal service on later dates. Check the latest status through the official operating link below.

EDITOR'S NOTE · EVERYDAY TRIP
EVERYDAY TRIP Editorial Team's advice
The following interprets official operating and booking conditions for trip planning. It is not a firsthand ride on the resumed trains.
The full-line restart offers a reason to consider southern Kyushu beyond a Fukuoka-only plan. Decide between a day trip and staying locally using return travel time and the time wanted at sights. A train connection alone is not a reason to crowd distant destinations into one day.
For a particular service such as Ibusuki no Tamatebako, check its date and seats first, then connect Shinkansen and accommodation. Alongside avoiding tight transfers, consider another route or local overnight option if you miss it.
Buying a regular ticket and later converting it to pass use does not fit the official reservation structure. List routes and dates, compare regular tickets against pass and extra costs, then book through one suitable route. Even across several cities, uncovered sections or unnecessary backtracking can reduce savings.
A restart notice and a no-delay reading today do not guarantee operations on your departure day. Especially when traveling from southern Kyushu directly to Fukuoka Airport, allow for ticket collection, transfers and airport procedures. If missing the flight would be costly, also compare spending the last night in the departure city.
