Dotonbori’s Glico Sign: The Original 2026 Replacement Schedule

Originally published · Korean source last modified

Cover edited from a 2019 Dotonbori photograph of the Glico sign and Ebisubashi, announcing a late-November display end as of October 16, 2026

To photograph Dotonbori’s then-current Glico sign, the original report advised checking travel dates. The sixth-generation sign was to finish display in late November 2026, with renovation work beginning in December. The seventh-generation sign was planned for spring 2027.

The cover was based on a February 1, 2019 Dotonbori archive photograph, not current conditions or the new sign.

Then-current sign ends in late November
New sign planned for spring 2027

Ezaki Glico announced this replacement schedule October 14. Year-end and winter Osaka travelers needed to consider that photographs with the sign could differ by visit date.

1. Three points for the travel calendar

Dotonbori Glico sign renovation schedule
Timing Official announcement
Late November 2026 Sixth-generation sign display ends
From December 2026 Renovation begins
Spring 2027 Seventh-generation display planned

“Late November” was the announced ending period; no exact final viewing date was announced. “Spring 2027” was likewise a planned period, not an exact date on which the new sign could be expected.

2. Recheck before travel from December onward

The announcement did not give a specific completion date or new design. For Dotonbori from December, do not assume the same sign photograph will be possible; check subsequent official notices before departure.

EVERYDAY TRIP Editorial Team’s advice

If the then-current sign is the purpose, consider visiting before late November. Allow a margin rather than aiming for the last day of an imprecise period, and check for additional display-ending notices before leaving.

For spring 2027 too, plan the photograph after an exact new-display date is announced. Visiting Dotonbori and seeing a particular sign are separate timing questions.
