Fukuoka’s Momiji Hachimangu announced its 2026 Momiji Festival for November 28–29, with evening illumination November 21–29 from evening until 8 p.m. Traditional Japanese umbrella lights were added only on the two festival days. Within walking distance of Fujisaki Station, it was an evening option to consider for a late-November Fukuoka trip.

The cover was edited from a July 29, 2022 photograph of Momiji Hachimangu’s main and worship halls. It does not show this year’s illumination or actual current foliage.
Festival dates differ from the overall illumination period
The shrine’s October 15 announcement separated the main festival and lighting dates. Evening lights were also planned for November 21–27, but umbrella lights required choosing November 28 or 29. The lighting start was given only as “evening,” not a fixed daily clock time. Treat 8 p.m. as the end of viewing, not an arrival target.
Some city tourism information gave different lighting dates, so this table follows the organizing shrine’s announcement. Check the shrine’s notices again before visiting.
| Category | Source information checked | How it affects an itinerary |
|---|---|---|
| Main festival | November 28–29 | Separate from the full evening-lighting period |
| Evening illumination | November 21–29, from evening until 8 p.m. | No fixed switch-on time announced |
| Traditional umbrella illumination | November 28–29 only, from evening until 8 p.m. | Do not expect it on the other days |
| Subway access | Airport Line Fujisaki Station Exit 4; about seven minutes on foot | Walking estimate starts at the exit; getting off the train and through the gates takes extra time |
| Parking on festival days | Almost no parking available | Consider public transport first |
Walk from Fujisaki Station Exit 4
Fukuoka’s tourism access guidance gives about seven minutes on foot from Exit 4 of Airport Line Fujisaki Station. The address is 1-26-55 Takatori, Sawara-ku, Fukuoka (福岡市早良区高取1丁目26-55). Seven minutes is not the entire time from stepping off the train to reaching the viewing area; add time for the gates and sightseeing.
The shrine said parking was almost unavailable on festival days and requested public transport use. Drivers might need to find a nearby paid space, with no guarantee one would be available. To avoid searching for parking, first check the route from your accommodation to Fujisaki Station and the return train.
Recheck rain and foliage before leaving
The shrine said the festival would proceed unless weather was severe, but dedicated performances would be canceled in rain. Do not assume lights and performances have identical rain conditions. The event period does not guarantee peak foliage; check local updates nearer the trip for a particular scene.
The checked shrine announcement did not state a viewing fee. A detailed stall list was also absent from the checked official text, so avoid assuming specific foods or stall numbers.
EVERYDAY TRIP Editorial Team’s advice
If umbrella lights are the purpose, first match your trip to November 28–29. Treat November 21–27 as a visit for the regular evening lights to reduce mismatched expectations.
Leave time for the walk and viewing rather than arriving just before 8 p.m. On festival days, consider the subway before driving, and adapt the evening plan for possible performance cancellation in rain.
