Traveling north from southern Okinawa brings you to the resort area of Onna.

Along Route 58, where the resorts cluster, Yakiniku NAKAMA was opposite the Nakama Steak House introduced in an earlier account.

The resort setting seemed to attract people from around the world.

The different meat cuts were helpfully explained in English.

Seeing the English names for each cut was a chance for me to learn too.

Inside were both regular tables and tatami seating.

The interior had the feel of a dedicated yakiniku restaurant.

A chalkboard in the kitchen listed suggestions for anyone struggling to choose.

1. Nakama assortment

2. Chateaubriand

3. Mixed offal

4. Thick-cut beef tongue

5. Grilled premium loin

The menu had photographs, which made choosing easier.

There were courses and à la carte dishes, allowing you to choose what appealed.

The Nakama moriawase—mixed platter—looked especially tempting.

There was a wide selection of individual dishes.

Side dishes.

Bibimbap and gukbap often appear as finishing dishes at yakiniku restaurants in Japan.

It was a small reminder of Korean food’s influence.

Several kinds of awamori and the restaurant’s special sauce were also for sale.

It seemed you could taste the sauce with your meal and buy it if you liked it.

The kitchen was busy preparing meat.

The Nakama assortment looked delicious from every angle.

Its appeal was being able to try Okinawan beef and the branded Agu pork together.

I also appreciated the descriptions of each cut.

We cooked the meat on a small grill that would suit a solo yakiniku meal too.

The meat was deliciously juicy.

We had to try the special sauce as well.

It was great to taste both Okinawan pork and beef in a single order.

Okinawa is known for its venomous habu snakes, and liquor made with them is another local specialty.

They were selling habushu containing an actual snake.

I wanted to try it, but I was driving and could not have a drink.

This was Yakiniku NAKAMA in the resort area of Onna.

If a day at the resort leaves you craving grilled meat, I recommend this place for trying beef and pork together.
